Trans rep in generic crime genre - fits that bill

Crime isn't my usual genre so I know some of my criticisms are more staples of the genre.
It is very rare for me to see trans protagonists in crime, and this is the first time I saw one where they were a police officer. So I thought I'd give it a whirl.
Between the protagonist and her investigating a cold case of a murdered trans woman, there was some good representation of various family and work dynamics. But I found the prose quite stilted and dialogue heavy. It was hard to her in her head as I was led through events like I was reading police reports. Perhaps the driest book I've read in a long time.
It was also irritatingly predictable with major twists being obvious from the first few chapters. It wouldn't have been too bad if the characters were a bit more fleshed …

It is probably a lot better if you like crime novels and are used to this style of writing.
