Sorrowland

It's a good read but i put it away for some months because it is so gritty and dark and that's not how i like my escapism sometimes. also, it felt like the plot didn't really get going for a long stretch in the middle and then everything rushed to an end. anyway, it has a lot of truly beautiful, poetic sentences which sometimes almost made me cry. i loved the characters, and the writing of queerness and queer sex. i read "the deep" by the author before and liked it a lot, so maybe my expectations were a bit too high for this one.

I found nothing to dislike about this book aside from one thing: I'd have liked to explore more about the main character's love interest's background. This is eminently forgiveable though. The writing is rich and lyrical and the world Solomon creates is recognizable and believable even as she populates it with fantastical creatures. Even as the main character becomes one of those creatures.
