Kim & Kim Vol. 2

Love is a Battlefield focuses even more on the relationships, layering harmonies over a simple drumbeat (the get-the-macguffin plot). If that sounds like I'm downplaying the plot, rest assured that it contains masked goons from crime syndicates, a giant battlemech, and a trip to hell (well, the necrosphere, as Kim D. would have it). That might be called the story, if you squint a little. But I'd say that the much more interesting, hard-hitting drama happens in the minds and hearts of Kim & Kim, dealing with exes and regret and toxicity. Love (and friendship, which isn't really any different) is messy. Like, truly messed up. Is this a fun read, you may wonder? Fvck yeah! It doesn't pull its punches, though, and the pain for the Fighting Kims goes deep. And like everybody else, they are the result of a string of history and choices, some of them really bad choices. That said, Kim & Kim is a comic about the future, which will be informed by the past, but defined by our choices in the present. So get your ass into that battlemech and fight for a better future!
