bookpunk quoted Digitaler Kolonialismus by Ingo Dachwitz

bookpunk reviewed Digital Degrowth by Michael Kwet
Clear recommendation for everyone interested or active in tech-related issues
4 stars
This is a valuable book with rich empirical insights and with mostly clear writing. It contributes to an important discussion we need to have throughout societies and communities, especially those working on tech or tech-related issues. The first seven chapters and their strong empirical body are the strongest part of the book. The final two chapters, mainly oriented towards normative and instructive descriptions, sometimes feel a bit too repetitive and theory-driven. Still definitely worth reading to the end. The book provides extensive references for further reading and is packed with real-world examples that underpin the topic's relevance and can be an inspiration for activists and storytelling.

bookpunk quoted Digital Degrowth by Michael Kwet
The only solution to the environmental crisis is to abolish class and inequality in every society. With respect to digital tech, this means eradicating digital colonialism and capitalism through a revolution based on digital degrowth.

bookpunk commented on Digital Degrowth by Michael Kwet
The book is starting really strong, with an analysis and explanation of digital colonialism and critical economic theory. A lot of empirical evidence is provided but it does not disrupt the reading flow. Rather it makes me want to continue. Can definitely recommend so far! #FediBooks #DigitalColonialism #DigitalDegrowth #Degrowth #Colonialism #MichaelKwet
bookpunk quoted Digital Degrowth by Michael Kwet
We're either going to build a new and better world (ecosocialist degrowth) or we're going to be plunged into a permanent abyss by ruling-class elites who refuse to stop plundering the planet. Either way, business as usual is coming to an end.
