I read.
Not enough because I think "enough reading" is about as useful a statement as "clever enough", "healthy enough" or "moral integrity of social media influencer".
These past years, I've been reding a lot of e-books on my cellphone. Still, paper is better.
Also, talking about what I read is something I should do more, so, here goes!

Well... so how did this start? -- Nearly twenty years ago, perhaps 18?, I stumbled over this series. Read it in the web browser in the office, after work, sometimes instead of work. I liked the story, I liked the characters, the language, everything. But at some point I had caught up with the author's progress.
So I read other things, had family and work taking up more of my time, rarely thought about this series but never really got into it again.
2022, when I discovered the fediverse, social.tchncs.de/@kiplet was one of the first accounts I noted, and it only took a few weeks for me to connect the dots. And have a look into the series again, but starting to read from chapter one again, seeing there's now a really long novel unfolding itself was both appealing and felt like a challenge -- I didn't.

I liked the story, I liked the characters, the language, everything. But at some point I had caught up with the author's progress.

And have a look into the series again, but starting to read from chapter one again, seeing there's now a really long novel unfolding itself was both appealing and felt like a challenge -- I didn't.
And now, these days... 20 years anniversary. So I ordered the hardcover, and got impatient and started reading in the browser, after work, and sometimes at work, and in between family things, and I'm really looking forward to see if I, again, will catch up with Kip Manleys writing progress, or if he'll conclude his story before I reach its end.
And after those ramblings -- if you like fantasy, and fancyness, swords and knights and long-winded sentences and a big vocabulary and really interesting characters with lots of character you should have a look and a read, perhaps in the browser. And if you like to reward authors of stories that really pull you in and who (I suppose) put a lot of their time and creativity into creating worlds that are really close to our reality but not exactly the same, you might, after due consideration, conclude that paying them for a paper copy is not bad, because it supports their life and work and allows you to put something to brag about into your bookshelf.

Inzwischen habe ich ein paar von seinen Reden gelesen und war amüsiert. Dazu kam dann auch immer ein Moment, wo ich nachdenklich wurde oder erschreckt.
Da jede Rede ja für sich steht und vergleichsweise kurz ist dachte ich anfangs, ich würde da mal reinschauen und dann was anderes zwischendrin lesen. Sicherlich würde das gehen, aber am Ende der einen, mit dem Gedanken "hey, das ist gut... wichtig. Und wirklich angenehm rübergebracht" entsteht dann schnell "... und was hat er bei der Gelegenheit zu sagen gefunden?" und der Plan hat sich jetzt geändert.
Na ja, ein Autor der zum weiterlesen motiviert hat ja wohl erreicht was er wollte :-)

Once again a very worthwile Cory Doctorow. I did notice some similarities to Red Team Blues and I think the meandering story was, while technically setting the stage in a really brillant manner, at the core a bit... well, thin.
Probably too much reality there.
And I'll also read another Marty Hench novel, should one be published :-)

Kann ich sehr empfehlen. Textmarker, Notizbuch und Füller waren für mich lohnende Ausrüstung. Eine grobe Vorstellung davon, wie Gesellschaften funktionieren und wie die Weltgeschichte der letzten paar Hundert Jahre verlief machen das Verständnis vermutlich einfacher, dann F.S. setzt doch einiges als Hintergrund voraus.

Ein schöner Schluss von Felwine Sarrs Buch, das eher Essay als wissenschaftliche Analyse ist. Selber finde ich die Aspekte Analyse, Einordnung und Erklärung gut (natürlich kurz, aber hunderte Jahre Geschichte vieler Völker, Nationen, und im Grunde der ganzen Welt kann man ja nicht in wenigen Seiten detailliert abhandeln) dargestellt, aber leider ist mir vieles zu wenig Konkret und insbesondere vermisse ich nach all dem Können und Sollen das "Wir werden tun" und "jetzt grade machen wir". Da das Buch als Manifest charakterisiert wird sagt das wohl mehr über meine optimistischen Wünsche aus :-) Das das Buch aber auch schon vor zehn Jahren geschrieben wurde und die Utopie der Verwirklichung nicht näher zu sein scheint, während die zitierten Probleme immer deutlicher erkennbar werden, bleibt daneben auch ein grosses Mass an Enttäuschung über die nicht realisierten Möglichkeiten. Das ist dann wohl mein Pessimismus.

Die gar nicht so unterschwellige Kritik an den Wirtschaftswissenschaften macht beim Lesen ja auch Freude :-)
@Brackmeister ich guck' jetzt grade während der Arbeitszeit hier rein weil mein Review eines KI-generierten Dokuments mich so strapaziert hat, dass ich ernsthaft darüber nachdenke, meinen Verträgen eine Aussage wie "Durchsicht oder kommentieren von KI-erzeugten Dokumenten kostet 200 Euro pro A4-Seite extra" hinzuzufügen. Und zwar mit dem Ziel, dass ich das Geld nicht bekomme.

Endlich mal wieder ein Buch, das mich motiviert, Notizblock, Füller und Textmarker bereit zu haben. Definitiv interessant, denk-würdig und und diskutierbar. Macht Spass.
